Pinceladas gramaticales: exlamaciones con what, how, such y so

- El modo más frecuente de expresar una exclamación en inglés es con what o how:

what a good idea! - ¡qué buena idea!
how wonderful! - ¡qué maravilloso!

What va seguido del artículo a/an cuando se trata de un nombre contable en singular:

what a beautiful house! -¡qué casa más bonita!
what an expensive car! - ¡qué coche tan caro!

What no va seguido de artículo cuando se trata de un nombre contable en plural o un nombre no contable:

what smart shoes! - ¡qué zapatos tan elegantes!
what patience he has! - ¡qué paciencia tiene!

- how suele ir con adjetivos o adverbios:

how late it is! - ¡qué tarde es!
how generous you are! - ¡qué generoso eres!
how quickly you eat! - ¡qué rápido comes!
how well you speak English! - ¡qué bien hablas inglés!

aunque también puede ir seguido de sujeto y verbo:

how I hate him! - ¡cómo lo odio!

Son también frecuentes las combinaciones con how (how much, how many, how often, how far, etc.):

how much money he has!  - ¡cuánto dinero tiene!
how many children they have! ¡cuántos hijos tienen!
how far you live! - ¡qué lejos vives!

En algunos casos, sobre todo en estilo literario, se produce inversión del sujeto y del auxiliar o del operador do/did:

how often have I regretted that decision! - ¡cuántas veces he lamentado esa decisión!
how many times do I have to tell you! - ¡cuántas veces tengo que decírtelo!

- son también frecuentes las exclamaciones con los intensificadores  such y so. Such se usa con sustantivos, generalmente precedidos de un adjetivo, y so con adjetivos:

I've never seen such a clever man! - ¡nunca he visto un hombre tan listo! (I've never seen so clever a man es también posible, pero mucho menos frecuente)
you're so selfish! - ¡eres tan egoista!/¡qué egoista eres!
